Heliconia caught my eye, after awakening in a darkened morning in the Hawaiian Islands, with a hello to each of my five senses (thank you to Dewitt Jones for sharing and inspiring this first thing practice).
A good morning outdoor swim and outdoor shower at one of my favorite places on the planet, the Hui Ho’olana, where I’m participating in a weeklong workshop, “Photography as Spiritual Practice” started my seeing simply day.
I looked to the banana tree stalks, and there she was nearby, peeping through neighboring leaves, so welcoming.
The simple presence of Heliconia called …
Lean in. See me. Reflect.
An invitation issued: can you too be receptive, held?
As I breathe into the gift of today and open the present,
she whispers me alive:
come and see.
Give permission.
Surrender to beauty, edges, all your senses.
Breathe life.
May it be so.
May love and beauty be your constant companion this day.
Note: I’ve been away from Alaska for two weeks, turning inward after the intensity that 2024 brought ashore, and will be sharing images, reflections, and video meditations I created in the coming days and weeks. I missed a weekly post and rested. I trust and hope that you too can and will offer yourself time to unplug and let go, giving yourself rest and a hug, however you most need. Peace be with you.

A time to rest is a good thing.
