A bit more about me
I need to live near water. Ideally moving water, with an expansive horizon view.
The sturdy outer landscape of Alaska along the aquamarine Kenai River is where home is, along with three rambunctious Labrador Retrievers, the occasional moose, and daily flight of eagle and raven. I arrived in the northland via way of a once sleepy Southern California beach town where I lived in a van for a summer, the front range of Northern Colorado in a college town where I became a foster-adoptive Mom, while writing my first two books at a cabin among Sherman Granite rocks, wandering elk and deer, and a wildflower meadow on the Wyoming - Colorado border.
Most often my camera is nearby–trusty iPhone or Canon R5–plus pen and paper to express the inner inklings and movements that catch my heart, mind, and attention. I often need to morph time when I overestimate what I can accomplish and become caught up listening intently to someone share a story, or pausing to admire beauty in nature—especially at my lodge, the River Raven Sanctuary.
I understand burnout, trauma, healing from grief and loss after the suicide death of my teenage son, contemplative practices and mindfulness from decades of spiritual practice and living at a monastery, the value of rest and play—especially fishing for wild salmon. I’ve learned to breathe deep, trust myself, and discern my “yes” and “no” in a high-stress workplace and recovery from long-COVID when SOB was a real thing.
I know the focus that comes from authoring books, leading retreats, offering spiritual companionship, coaching others, and confess I have a rather large library with thousands of books–I so appreciate words, and the texture and scent of ink and paper.
Like author Karen Blixen, I too believe that, “The cure for anything is salt water—sweat, tears, or the sea.”
I’m so glad you are here and look forward to connecting.
With kindness and care,
Pegge
